Happy Thanksgiving

Greetings Boot Packers,

We will not be boot packing over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. We have had a great turnout of boot packers up to this point in Novemeber. Thanks to the hard work of all the boot packers, we are in good shape heading into the long weekend. A large portion of Highland Bowl has been packed, as well as most of Oly Bowl, No Name and Temerity. Sections of Steeplechase have also been packed.

We still have more areas to boot pack, and there is a storm forecast for Friday into Saturday. The storm may bring 5 to 10 inches of snow on the mountain.

The plan is to resume boot packing on Monday, November 27, 2023.

As far as the boot packing schedule for the rest of next week, as always, it will all depend on the amount snowfall and the amount of terrain ready to boot pack. We plan to continue boot packing Monday through Saturday, as long as there is work to done.

Thank you for all your effort,

The Aspen Highlands Snow Safety team

Boot Packer schedule for Thanksgiving week

Greetings Boot Packers,

We will have boot packing tomorrow Saturday November 18, 2023.

There will not be boot packing on Monday November 20, 2023.

There will be boot packing on Tuesday November 21, 2023 and Wednesday November 22, 2023.

There will not be boot packing on Thanksgiving Day.

The schedule for days after Thanksgiving will be determined after this weekend. It will depend on two things. It depends on how much snow we get from the storm this weekend. It also depends how much terrain is left to boot pack after next Wednesday.

We will continue to post the boot packing schedule on this website as soon as the decisions are made.

Thank you for all of your help.

Boot Packing to start Monday November 6th

Greetings Boot Packers,

Boot Packing will begin on Monday, November 6th 2023.

All boot packers are invited to show up at the base of Aspen Highlands and be ready to go by 8 am.

Please arrive in plenty of time to get checked in and have your gear ready to go up the lift at 8 am.

Check in will be at the bottom of the escalators in the Aspen Highlands base area.

We plan to boot pack on Monday, November 6th and Tuesday, November 7th. These will be the only two days of boot packing for next week. (The ski patrol will be doing our annual medical training the other days).

Boot packers will need skis and/or snowboards to get to and from the areas of boot packing. Bring plenty and food and water to spend the day in the field. As always, rubber soled boots are required for boot packing.

We are still planning to have an informal meeting tomorrow, Thursday, November 2nd in the Plaza at the base of Aspen Highlands from 3pm to 5 pm. This meeting is primarily for people who have not boot packed before. We will give an overview of the boot packing program and we will be available to answer any questions potential boot packers may have.

The meeting tomorrow is not required. We hope to see everyone on Monday morning, (Reminder: daylight saving time ends this weekend.)

Kind Regards,

Aspen Highlands Snow Safety Department

Fall 2023 Boot Packer Meeting

Greetings Boot Packers,

We will have an informal meeting for all current and future boot packers on Thursday November 2, 2023 in the Plaza at the base of Aspen Highlands at 3 pm to 5 pm.

The boot packing program will run the same as last year. This meeting is primarily for people who have not boot packed before, and want to learn how it all works. We will give an overview of the program and be available to answer any specific questions.

Signing up for the program is all online (click on the BOOTPACKING tab above). The waivers are also online.

Returning boot packers are certainly welcome to attend. It is always great to gather as we get ready for another season of boot packing, you will be able to offer a different perspective to the aspiring boot packers.

As the returning bootpackers all know, the exact start date of bootpacking is yet to be determined. It always depends on the snow. We have had two storms so far this month and another storm is expected next week. There is currently about ten inches of snow in the Northwoods study plot. We need more snow in order to start bootpacking but we are getting close.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday November 2, 2023 in the Plaza at the base of Highlands. We will post on this website when we have the exact start date for bootpacking. So stay tuned and check back when it snows again.

Thanks

Please click on the bootpacking tab at the top of this page on the highlandspatrol.com website and sign up for boot packing this season. The basic information about our boot packing program is available on that bootpacking page. We will most likely schedule our annual organizational boot packer meeting for the third week in October. We will be able to answer any and all questions about bootpacking at the meeting. We will e-mail everyone who has signed up, once the details for the meeting have been finalized.

Enhanced voucher offerings for Boot Packers

Greetings Boot Packers,

We were happy to announce more choices and benefits for boot packers at our annual boot packer meeting last week.

New this season, boot packers may choose to receive daily lift tickets instead of a season pass. Each boot packing day is worth one lift ticket. Boot packers can earn a maximum of ten transferable lift tickets.

Boot packers that volunteer 15 days are offered a Premier Pass.

New this season, Premier Passes offered to boot packers  have all of the same Premier Benefits as a regular Premier Pass.

Premier Benefits include an Ikon Base Pass, friends and family vouchers, discounts on lessons and rentals, and more.

Also new this season, boot packing days are transferable to family and friends. Boot packers may assign their voucher credit to family and friends.

We hope to attract more boot packers with these new offerings. New this season, there is no longer a minimum number of boot packing days required in order to qualify for voucher credit. Boot packers earn voucher credit from their first day of boot packing.

Tell all your friends about the new choices. We hope to see everyone soon.

Let it Snow,

AHSP
